The Outback part 2

Tuesday 10/9
We leave Longreach today and head you guessed it further inland stopping at a place called Winton. It is known as Dinosaur country as they have been finding Dinosaur fossils here for the past 20 years. Its very hot 36 degrees, we visit The Australian age of Dinosaurs museum. The kids love it learning about fossils and dinosaur bones. Average temp here in summer is 35-45 highest temp a tour guide told me reached 50! We stop for the night at Hughenden not much here but we do find a giant dinosaur for a photo. We have now turned and are heading for the coast.

Wednesday 11 /9
Charters Towers is the next stop now we are only about 130km inland from Townsville so quite high up. Ready for a rest we spend the afternoon by the pool...... very nice its mid 30's again. Charters Towers is an old Gold Mining town and has some beautiful old buildings. The Kids do some panning for gold. Phil is kept happy when we find a giant cow and Ben finds a giant Boomerang who knew there were so many Big things?? We take the kids to see Smurfs 2 highlight of their day.

Friday 13/9
Big day today decision made to go to Undara National Park. We are on the road at 7.00am travelling just short of 400km. We run over a dead Kangaroo which splatters Kangaroo bits under the car and on the front of the van and does it stink! foul. Undara  is a National Park that has volcanic Lava Tubes we do a 2 hour tour which was really good the kids love it.. Kangaroos roam through the caravan park which the kids enjoy. Time for another swim after the tour.

That's the outback for us done and dusted! Next stop the Atherton Tablelands.......lush and green.
Stay tuned for the next blog :)

  1. Hi everyone,

We enjoyed seeing some more photos of all the new experiences you are having. Some of the adventures must be great fun for the kids. Question. Are Jess and Ben trying to keep any kind of record as to where they have been and what they have seen so far?

Hope the hot weather is not causing any sunburn problems and that the car is not struggling pulling the van during the hot days.

    keep up the Blogs.

All is well here, but cold and raining today.(Monday the 16th)
