Port Douglas / Palm Cove

Tuesday 24th September arrive in Port Douglas. We stay for 3 nights and enjoy a few relaxing days doing the following: fishing of the jetty, St Mary's by the sea a beautiful little church by the water, strolling along the marina and the night market, watching the sunset down by the marina, swimming at 4 mile beach and in the pool,  and Phil does a fishing charter off the reef. The weather is a perfect 30 every day.

Friday 27th - Thursday 3rd October
From Port Douglas we head down the coast grey nomad km to Palm Cove a distance of 36km arriving by 10.00! We love it here and make this our longest stop and our base for sightseeing around Cairns.
After a slight mishap with the caravan just as we arrive at Palm Cove (which involved me collecting a bollard as I turned the corner ripping the outer caravan door off the caravan.) We pull up at the camping ground unaware that our door is missing. A lovely man walking down the street asks if we have lost our door informing Phil it is down the street on the side of the road, a few minutes later Phil returns walking down the street carrying our caravan door oopsy! A quick trip to Jayco Cairns and Phil does some make shift repairs to get the door back on, this will do until we get home.
Right on the beach Palm Cove has the feel of a mini port Douglas.

Sunrise on the beach at Palm cove yes you read it right SUNRISE! We actually watched 2 however the first morning the sky was amazing as you can see with my awesome new camera!
Fist day trip was to Kuranda on Sunday 29 th September. We took the scenic railway up through Barron Gorge to reach Kuranda then sky rail back down which was a highlight for the kids. At Kuranda we wandered the shops and markets and went to the Australian Butterfly sanctuary. Jess now adores the beautiful Ulysses butterfly. During the wet season Barron Gorge is apparently spectacular but not much more than a trickle at the moment.

Monday 30th we go to Tjapukai Aboriginal cultural park. We have a great day highlights were watching Didgeridoo playing, a dace show, spear and boomerang throwing, weapons demonstration, aboriginal face painting and Didgeridoo lessons.

Wednesday 2nd October we head to Green Island out of Cairns on the Reef rocket for an afternoon of snorkelling on the Great Barrier Reef we have a great day the kids love snorkelling and enjoy the semi submarine, would have loved more time on the island.

  1. Hello, Tom, Ben, Jess and of course Mum and Dad.
Hey this holiday seems to be getting better and better as you travel around Queensland, what ace fun you must be having seeing all the different places and interesting things. Wow what great memories you will have.
What a shame Dad lost the caravan door but at least he got it back, so that was good.Hope you haven't been sunburnt while exploring and swimming in all the hot queensland sun.
Nana and Grandpa have enjoyed seeing all the photos of where you have been and what you have seen so far. , and the one's of the barrier reef, brought back memories for us when we went up to Souith Molle island many years ago (Ask mum nd Dad to show you where it is on the map of Queensland) we saw, swam in the barrier reef there, and it was great fun.

Looking forward to you telling us all about your holiday when you get back home

    Love Nana and Grandpa.
